Bob Cole

1941 - 2004

Bob Cole passed away this morning at 10:16.  His wife, Virginia, visited with him during breakfast.  He was in good spirits and feeling well.  He had regained a fair amount of his strength.  He was able to go home over the weekend and be at home Sunday morning for Fathers' Day.  After breakfast, they came to take him to therapy and Virginia went back to their house.  A little while later she received a call saying that Bob had taken a "turn for the worse".

Location

Bob will be at the Lakeside Barrick Funeral Chapel in Danville, Illinois.

Times

Visitation will be from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday evening (June 24, 2004)

The funeral is scheduled for Friday afternoon at 1:00 (June 25, 2004)

Directions

From I-74, take the Bowman exit and travel out of town North on Bowman.  When you come to farm land, watch for Liberty Lane.  Turn LEFT onto Liberty Lane and take it to Vermilion.  (a couple of landmarks at Liberty and Vermillion are a McDonalds and a Steak 'n Shake)  Turn RIGHT onto Vermilion.  The funeral home will be just ahead on the left.

Please pray for Virginia, she is devastated.  Cards and notes of encouragement can be sent to:

Bob is healing well, but is very weak. His first desire is to be home, his second is to be with us each week. Neither of these can become a reality until he regains his strength.

Please pray that Bob will regain his strength quickly. Thank you for your prayers, love and notes of encouragement.

April 11, 2004

Bob has shown signs of considerable improvement. His feet are beginning to heal. He was getting up three times a day for meals and twice a day for therapy. Then he had another set back.

The antibiotic treatment he was under has caused an increase in the bad bacteria (C Diff) and he is now considered highly infectious. When Joan and I were there to visit on Friday, we had to put on gowns and gloves before entering his room.

Bob is making progress, but these set backs are wearing on both Bob and Virginia. We ask for your continued and fervent prayers on their behalf.

March 21, 2004

Bob continues to struggle. As of this morning, they were supposed to move him to the VA hospital in Indianapolis - this is after a week of planning to move him to Indianap[olis, then Chicago, then Iowa City, then Champaign, Illinois. After finally moving him to Champaign, they decided he would receive treatment sooner in Indianapolis. Bob and Virginia spent all day on Saturday having his departure time moved back until they were finally told he would be moved at 8:00 Sunday morning.

Please continue to petition our Heavenly Father on behalf of both Bob and Virginia. Cards and notes of encouragement should be sent to their home:

March 15, 2004

Please note - Bob Cole is back in the hospital and is not doing well. He has developed a condition that causes hemorrhaging under the skin on his extremities. Mom, Dad and I visited him in the hospital on Sunday (3/14/04). He had several deep purple patches on his arms and legs (where the blood had settled between his skin and muscle tissue), But his feet were very swollen and were deep purple all over - and half way up his shins. On the feet, especially, were multiple blisters. While we were there, Bob sat up to visit with us and seemed to have a positive attitude (he mentioned how much he is missing seeing everyone in Terre Haute while he is out of commission). The nurse also came in and checked his vitals; his pulse and blood pressure were very good and his blood sugar was not bad. He doesn't seem to be running a fever. Please continue to pray for Bob.

March 12, 2004

Bob's catheter was removed from his shoulder and expected to send him home after dialysis on Wednesday, but he is still experiencing nausea - so he is still in the hospital. His infection seems to be gone, but he needs to be able to keep food down before they send him home.

Please continue to pray for both Bob and Virginia - and send cards or notes of encouragement if possible.

February 27, 2004

Bob has been out and back into the hospital since the last update. He was able to be with us for services, and to hear his friends perform for us Saturday evening. Virginia took him back to the hospital about 10:00 Sunday evening. By 4:00 AM, Monday, they moved him into intensive care. After all this time they have determined that he has an infection in his blood stream that is caused by the dialysis catheter in his right shoulder. They plan to remove the catheter to bring the infection under control. With Bob's heart condition, this will be a somewhat risky procedure.

Please continue to pray for both Bob and Virginia. Cards and notes of encouragement would also be helpful. Robert and Virginia Cole

February 27, 2004

Bob has had a rough winter, with ups and downs. When he went in for his dialysis, today, they admitted him into the hospital with a septic infection, which can lead to multiple organ failure.

Bob desparately needs our prayers at this time. Not being well has worn on him, emotionally. He is tired. Please pray for God's intervention and healing - and please pray for comfort and encouragement on Bob's behalf. Also, please remember Virginia in your prayers.

October 25, 2003

Bob and Virginia were able to attend the Feast of Tabernacles with us in Florida. They are home now and resuming the Monday - Wednesday - Friday dialysis schedule.

September 30, 2003

Great news - mixed blessing ... Virginia called a few days ago to say that Bob's dialysis schedule has been changed to Monday - Wednesday - Friday! Unfortunately, this means that they will miss both Trumpets and Atonement because the new schedule took effect after Trumpets.

They are still planning to attend the Feast in Florida. Virginia has arranged for dialysis while they are there. Please pray for a safe and health positive trip to the Feast for Bob and Virginia.

Now we need to ask for one more blessing on their behalf. Unless another miracle takes place, Bob's kidneys will never function again and dialysis will be a permanent part of his life. At the very least, we should pray that Bob's dialysis be moved to Danville, Illinois (with the same schedule for treatment) so that he and Virginia won't have to make that long trip three times a week.

Thank you so much for your love and prayers on behalf of Bob and Virginia!

September 15, 2003

I visited Bob and Virginia in their home, today. Bob is doing very well. His foot (which is a reason they were keeping him in the hospital) is completely healed from infection. They are making plans to attend the Feast in Destin, complete with scheduled dialysis during the Feast, please pray that things go according to plan.

They are still struggling with a dialysis schedule that keeps Bob from attending church with us each week - and, now that the infection in his foot is gone, Bob is asking the doctors about a kidney transplant.

Please continue to keep Bob and Virginia cole in your prayers.

September 8, 2003

I learned today that Bob is still in the hospital because of concerns about his heart. They are moving him to the V.A. in Indianapolis tonight so that he can have a pace maker put in tomorrow.

Please pray for God's Hand in all of these proceedings - they had originally said his heart wasn't up to be worked on.

September 7, 2003

Bob isn't home from the hospital, yet, but God has blessed him with healing.

Bob Cole will not need to go to the hospital three times every day - at 8:00 AM, 4:00 PM and 12 Midnight - for twenty minutes of antibiotic drip because the infection is gone from the bone in his foot. Please give praise and thanks to God for this development. That infection was the reason the surgeon wanted to cut his toe off. Bob also has dialysis for four hours, three times a week. They are still praying that he will be moved to a Monday, Wednesday, Friday dialysis schedule so that Bob and Virginia can attend weekly Sabbath services with us.

August 31, 2003

Bob is doing better. His foot doctor did not agree with the surgeon and said he believed they could save Bob's toe. Bob has an infection in the bone. If they cannot beat that infection the toe will have to go. The foot doctor says the antibiotic drip is currently winning that fight. Bob hopes to go home this coming Wednesday, but he will have to come to the hospital three times a day - 8:00 AM, 4:00 PM and 12 Midnight - for a twenty minute drip treatment. This outpatient drip treatment will last about six weeks. (Bob and Virginia only live nine blocks from the hospital, so this is do-able.)

With regard to his dialysis, Bob says that will be a permanent part of his life from now on. He still desparately wants to be put on a Monday, Wednesday, Friday schedule for dialysis so that he can be with us for church on Saturday.

Please continue to pray for God's intervention on behalf of both Bob and Virginia.

August 23, 2003

Bob needs increased prayers on his behalf. One of his doctors now wants to remove his big toe. When he was asked why he replied that it wasn't doing Bob any good to keep it.

This has been a severe trial for both Bob and Virginia. I will provide more details soon, in the mean time, PLEASE continue to petition our loving Father for his intervention and blessing on their behalf.

August 18, 2003

Bob had hoped to come home on Sunday, but they think the infection in his foot may have spread to the bone.

On a more positive note, Bob wrote his congressman about not being able to do dialysis at the VA hospital when there was plenty of extra room and a willing staff. This week they received a copy of a letter the congressman wrote to the administrator of the VA asking him to look into making dialysis possible in Danville.

August 13, 2003

Virginia says Bob is continuing to do well. His foot isn't bothering him and he is ready to go home, but the doctors want to give him a few more days of the antibiotic drip before sending him home.

Please continue to pray for both Bob and Virginia. Thank you for your love, prayers and encouragement on their behalf.

August 12, 2003

Robert is feelin' much better today foot isn't bothering him. ("Prayers are a great thing!") Thank you so much! Virginia

August 11, 2003

Bob is back in the V.A. hospital to try and stop the infection in his foot. Virginia is dealing with several other family health trials.

Please continue t pray for both Bob and Virgiia.

August 10, 2003

Bob and Virginia came to church yesterday, after his dialysis - but Bob was not at all well. His podiatrist wants to put him back in the V.A. hospital to treat his foot more agressively with antibiotics. As much as Bob hates to be in the hospital, he said he was ready to go back in.

Please continue to pray for God's intervention on Bob's behalf

August 4, 2003

I received word from Virginia, today, that Bob is home - but he does not have a walking cast. He has the same orthopedic shoes that he has been wearing. At last report he was enjoying sitting in his porch swing in the back yard.

Please continue to pray for Bob and Virginia - and please contiue to send cards and notes of encouragement.

August 4, 2003

Much to our surprise, they put Bob in a walking cast. They have had him upwalking the halls of the hospital today. He is still struggling with a dialysis schedule that interferes with church and they haven't done much to deal with his heart condition, yet - but this is positive progress. Please continue to pray for Bob's improvement and healing - and for some relief with the dialysis schedule.

August 4, 2003

Bob is doing a little better today - and both Bob and Virginia are in a more positive frame of mind. Bob had surgery on his foot today and is not supposed to walk on it for a month. They removed the dialysis tubes from his neck, but because of the foot surgery, have not yet installed them in his arm.

These are positive developments, but your prayers and words of encouragement are still very necessary.

July 29, 2003

Bob had more difficulties today. While Virginia was with him, this morning, he seemed to be confused and disoriented. The infection in his foot seems to be spreading and for some reason they have taken him off of the antibiotic drip. He was too weak to take to his dialysis today, so that has been rescheduled for tomorrow afternoon.

Please pray for God's intervention on Bob's behalf - and please pray that God would strengthen and comfort Virginia as she deals with this very stressful time.

July 26, 2003

Bob is continuing his dialysis three times a week. This week he went back to the V.A. hospital because of an infected ulcer on the bottom of his foot. They are hopeful that a couple of days on an antibiotic drip will clear up that infection. Indications are that Bob will be on dialysis for the foreseeable future. Please continue to pray for Bob's health, and that his dialysis schedule would change to allow him to be with us on the Sabbath.

July 20, 2003

Bob Cole is home from the hospital. He is undergoing dialysis three times a week. The Cole's have asked for prayers because Bob's schedule has him in dialysis on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Bob was very upset that he would miss fellowshipping with us each week, but the only way they can change to a Monday, Wednesday, Friday schedule is if someone drops off of that schedule. Being with us on the Sabbath was so important to Bob, that he and Virginia came straight to services from dialysis (they came in a bit late through the back door, but they visited for quite a while after services).

July 15, 2003

I went up to visit Bob on Sunday. At that time he was being moved to a room out of I.C.U.
- since then he has been sent home. He still needs prayers and encouragement.
Right now they are focussing on his kidneys. He'll have dialysis treatments three times a week.
As I understand it, they will deal with his heart once the kidneys are strong enough.
Please continue to pray for Bob and Virginia - and please continue to send cards and notes of encouragement.

July 12, 2003

As of last evening Bob was doing some better. I'm not certain of all the details, but it sounds like he has
stabilized somewhat and is now able to do the regular dialysis.

Virginia expressed great thanks for the prayers and support. They have made a huge difference for the Coles.

Please continue to pray for Bob's progress and healing - and for Virginia's strength and comfort.

Thank you for your prayers, love and encouragement on their behalf.

July 11, 2003

From Virginia Cole:
Was checking the web page. On the prayer page..Bob is at
the Carle Hospital in Champaign. There is no VA over
there but they sent him there. Anyway Dr. Humprey is
kidney doc, they got the dialysis (not sure on spelling)
going yesterday this is to run for 24 hours. Had to do this
type because he was not strong enough for the other which
he will have later. 3-days a week, 4hrs a day. There is lot of
heart damage not sure what will happen there. Thank you
so much and Everyone for the prayers!

July 10, 2003

Bob is not doing well. They had planned to move him to Indianapolis for a heart catheterization,
but the severe weather in Indiana prevented them from flying him there. He is now at the
V.A. in Champaign, Illinois. At last report (earlier today) his kidneys were not functioning
and his heart was not doing well. Bob desperately needs our prayers and his wife, Virginia,
desperately needs our prayers and words of encouragement.
Please pray for the Cole's and let them know you are thinking of them.

July 7, 2003

Jeff Osborn here. I just talked to Virginia Cole. Bob went to the VA hospital today because
he wasn't feeling well - loss of appetite, shortness of breath, etc. They originally said
they would monitor him for a day. Later, they called Virginia to say they had moved Bob to
I.C.U. and that tests indicated he had had a heart attack. They also said he has pneumonia in one lung.

Please pray for Bob - and for Virginia.
And please send cards and notes of encouragement to the address below.

Thank you for your love and encouragement.

June 19, 2003

Bob is a long time member of our Congregation. Bob is a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces
and receives his treatment from the V.A. Hospital in Danville, Illinois. Bob is suffering from
a number of respiratory and circulatory concerns - along with complications from diabetis.
