Greetings from Church of God Terre Haute!
September is one of our busiest months; the fall holy days arrive, and the air of anticipation for the feasts mirrors what they represent: Christ's return and the renewal of all things. This month, we held two holy day services, a potluck with lots of fellowship, and began the Feast of Tabernacles!
On September 5th, Adam gave a sermon about the importance of prayer: what it means to pray humbly, the power of prayer in your life and the lives of those around you, and the importance of prayer in the relationship between man and God.
We provide premade bags of non-perishable food, drinks, and essentials for the homeless and struggling in our neighborhood. The first week of September was one of the hottest of the summer, and a young woman with her dogs came to the door during the sermon. She was greeted by Graham and given some of the bags, and just as she came in, Adam began to read Matthew 5:44: "But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you." She was touched by the words spoken and became teary-eyed; she had recently been kicked out of her living situation by people she trusted and was struggling. She sat down to rest and listen, and soon was on her way again, a little refreshed in body and, we pray, in spirit too.
September 12th was a Sabbath and also a holy day, the Feast of Trumpets. Guy spoke about Trumpets as the day of teruah - a great and earth-shattering shout or call - describing the return of Christ and the call to choose.
The next Sabbath, September 19th, Adam gave a sermon - titled "What Do We Deserve?" - about the definitions of judgment, mercy, and grace, and how they apply to us as the Day of Atonement approaches.
September 21st was the Day of Atonement. Graham gave a related sermon, diving deep into the Old Testament's description of this special Sabbath, God's commandments to the Israelites regarding its observance, and how the priests and sacrifices represent Christ and God's plan of salvation for His children.
We hope you had a blessed and fulfilling Feast of Tabernacles, and we look forward to seeing you at church soon!
